Are standards to for egg donors too high? Should couples be able to put a price on specifics?

I want to get others opinions for a paper I need to write for English. Are standards to for egg donors too high? Should couples be able to put a price on specifics?
There are two aspects to this question. If you compare and contrast with sperm donors you will be able to see what is driving this market.

First, there are medical standards imposed on donors. They must be healthy, with no diseases, physcological disorders, etc. There are limits to the number of times a women can be a donor. Male donors are the same except there is no limit to number of times they can provide a sample.

The other aspect, market demand is more telling. Sperm donors have been marketing their wares for years. Some donors are in high demand and some not so high. While it is noble to say that any donor is worthy, the market has a different opinion. Blond, blue-eyed people with superior IQs are in demand.

Sperm donation depends on cryopreservation of sperm. Cryopreservation of eggs (oocytes) is not commonly practiced. But there is new technology on the horizon and soon eggs will be marketed similar to sperm. There will be catalogs with blond women having great bods and triple digit IQs.

If there were a system that egg recipients, are given ';what is available';, there will be a black market for eggs that are desired. This an outgrowth of humans willing to pay for what they want. So you might as well sanction the same system we have for sperm. Although couples cry for a baby to love, it is just as easy to love a child that has a chance to get into Harvard. Are standards to for egg donors too high? I can tell you that my daughter looked into donating eggs, but was actually turned down because she was overweight.

Not morbidly obese, just larger than the chart the place used. Its absolutely ridiculous to me that they'd turn down a viable donor with an absolutely adorable baby and good health history!

Good luck to you, its no easy path.
No, because if they have a baby with genetic defects from ';old eggs'; or ';old sperm';, the parents will sue the doctor into his next life..
I don't know. What are the current standards?
I think the standards are pretty good. Only the healthiest women should be donors, not only for the resulting egg, but for the process with which they must go through. Donating eggs is not without risk. Women going through IVF are willing to take this risk. My friend lost one of her ovaries while going through the egg collection phase of her IVF.

Should couples be able to put a price on specifics. No. This is because you will run into a problem where women in certain categories may be deliberately courted and LIED TO in order to obtain eggs (most commonly, natural blonde, blue eyed women). This already happened in the early 90s. If you want a designer baby, that does not give you license to exploit women who have the features you are looking for.
